GoDaddy Outage Resolved

The GoDaddy outage that occurred yesterday has apparently been resolved.

Below is a statement from GoDaddy:

Go Daddy Site Outage Investigation Completed
Yesterday, GoDaddy.com and many of our customers experienced intermittent service outages starting shortly after 10 a.m. PDT. Service was fully restored by 4 p.m. PDT.
The service outage was not caused by external influences. It was not a "hack" and it was not a denial of service attack (DDoS). We have determined the service outage was due to a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables. Once the issues were identified, we took corrective actions to restore services for our customers and GoDaddy.com. We have implemented measures to prevent this from occurring again.
At no time was any customer data at risk or were any of our systems compromised.
Throughout our history, we have provided 99.999% uptime in our DNS infrastructure. This is the level our customers expect from us and the level we expect of ourselves. We have let our customers down and we know it.
We take our business and our customers' businesses very seriously. We apologize to our customers for these events and thank them for their patience.

Mozy Backup

One of the things I ALWAYS tell clients is to backup up their computer system.  Today's online backup companies automate the entire process for you, so it literally takes no time at all.  And believe it or not, online backup has become very inexpensive. For several years I have used Mozy Online Backup.  And believe me... there have been SEVERAL times in which Mozy has saved yours truly!

About a 1.5 months ago, I began having a problem with my Mozy Backup.  At first, I would get "ConnectionError3" errors every time the backup would run.  However, I didn't get around to doing anything about it until a couple weeks had passed.  I know... that is not a smart thing to do!

Anyway... I finally got around to talking with Mozy Technical Support.  I'll be honest... It took several days to get the problem solved.  But, it DID get solved.  Even though we had to try several different things to get the issue resolved, working with their Tech Support was a very positive experience.  No, I don't like that the software had an issue, but things happen.  The important thing is that they stayed with me until the issue was resolved.

So, despite the recent hiccup in the Mozy Backup service, I am still a fan.  In fact, working with their tech support has made me an even bigger fan.

Now... how did they fix my problem?... Keep in mind, I'm not saying this is the solution to all Mozy Backup problems... I'm just saying this is how we fixed mine:

1st:  I logged into my Mozy account and changed my login email.
2nd: While logged into Mozy, I deleted the computer in question from my account
3rd: I uninstalled Mozy Backup from my computer.
4th: I reinstalled Mozy Backup on my computer.
5th: I ran Mozy Backup... and it worked flawlessly
6th: I logged in to Mozy and changed my login email back to its original version.

The biggest downfall is that I had to start over with my online backup.  That took approximately 3 days.  But, the backup runs behind the scene, so it really didn't impact me at all.

So, once again I'm feeling good about my Mozy Backup.  Needless to say, I would certainly recommend Mozy.  But, the important thing is, regardless of who you use, BACK UP YOUR FILES.

Visit Mozy to begin your online file backup now.
